The "Machinist"
A week ago, when i watched the film 'The Machinist' starring an extremely anorexic looking Christian Bale as a mentally unstable blue collar worker,...i never in my wildest dreams imagined myself being thrown into a similar working environment, (right down to the blue colour of my uniform) ..cause that is where i find myself now for the next 5 months... in the midst of MACHINISTS! Well, i can say safely though that i won't actually be doing any machining myself ..haw haw,...though i'll have alot of these machinists around. The good news is that the production area looks nothing like the dark menacing claustrophic anxiety inducing workspace like that in the movie. In contrast, it's actually bright, air conditioned,..and the machines are programmed, automatic and highly advanced, requiring a high level of skill and training to operate them....and no deranged looking Christain Bale character either though there was this chinese bloke who kept eyeing me suspicously...staring at me without the slightest hint of discretion,..obviously checking me out. Well i suppose i couldn't blame the poor veck. My delicous self was probabaly a rare sight for him to behold...cough... Anyways, the most amusing thing is that three quarters of the blue collared workers there are indians,...and i don't mean local indians. There must be more "imported" indians in that sector/department than any other in the company. So,...i guess it's no surprise for me to find myself being the only one on attachment posted there in that sort of...er.. company,.... even if i'm not technically indian (me having more in common with ceylonese terrorist scum). I spend much of the day pretending to comprehend what was happening around me, as i was given a little orientation of the place and work that goes on there. I must admit i was impressed with some of the nifty sophisticated instruments they were using. These are instruments far too expensive for any university to purchase for use in the workshops...cough.. cough ..well atleast NTU! Anyways, i don't reckon it's going to be a slack 5 month industrial attchment like some lucky cunts i know, going by my experience on the first day. I am just hoping i'm wrong!
