BOOKS!
I have decided to review novels.Yes, you eyes don't fail you. You are reading it right. I know it's a shock. I had heart palpitations just before i began typing, cause it was overwhelming even for myself. I am not known to be usually fazed by things. But this does. After all, right from day 1 of its inception, this blog has never once been utilised for this purpose. This a sign of things to come. This blog is heading in a whole new direction, for better(unlikely)or for worse.(probably) 'REVIEWING BOOKS? YOU MUST BE FUCKIN OUT OF YOUR MIND'- i can imagine the myriad of thoughts streaming through the consciousness of my faithful blog readers. Yeah, most people identify me with being a movie buff ( most of them wish i'd just shut up on my opinion on movies and to keep my aggressive critical faculties in check), and to an extent a music lover (so i'm a bit of musical snob...well i'm sorry i have better taste than you cunt!). But very little take me for a literary sort, which is not far from the truth. I couldn't have read more than a dozen books throughout my teenage years (that's including my literature text at secondary level), unless ofcourse like someone once quipped, " graphic novels count as books".Now that i have read loads...haw haw!
I must confess though that my recent fascination with books( as recent as last year) was sparked by ironically the worst of them and without a trickle of a doubt the most overrated and overhyped "literary tripe"to have graced our book stores in recent times. .Credit though has to be "thrown at" where it's deserved, even of it's with expressed with a tinge of reluctance. But surely any book that has managed to fool an entire host of the most literarily vacant degenerates to pick it up and actually read it from start to finish deserves all the plaudits it gets, even if it's the biggest "literary con job"of the 21st century. Millions were fooled by the hype and controvesy surrounding the subject material (myself included). Million others indirectly fooled by the documentary which in the "effort" to shed some light on the controvesy surrounding it, served only to only heighten its value of interest. But ofcourse this little "literary deception" is far from over. When the movie based on it finally makes it way on to the big screen (i am not complaining. Why would i? no self respecting movie buff could possibly resist the thespian skills of artistes such as Audrey Tautou and Paul Bettany),millions more will inevitably be bamboozled. For those of you sickened by the sight of the thick paperback with the stylistically printed words The Da Vinci Code & Dan Brown and who have developed a "literary allergy" to all things Dan Brown and such like, i say "brace yourselves you poor bastards! This is only the beginning of your woes". Be prepared for an all out assault on the "literary senses" by every book store( from Borders to Times) in town come mid-year... haw haw haw!
